TUTU CAN: GIRLY PENCIL HOLDER

Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series...

Our dad is constantly losing pencils when he works in the garage, wo we decided to make him a very girly pencil holder (because we're funny like that) and fill it up with 12 four-packs of pencils. We thought it turned out OH, SO ADORABLE and we just had to share it! Check it out!

How cute is that?! Have you ever seen a more precious pencil holder? Of course you haven't, because there has never been a prettier pencil holder in the history of pencil holders! But anyway, let's get on with how we made it!

For this project, we used a soup can that we already had on hand, and a hot glue gun we've had for a long time, as well as some rubber bands, 6" tulle, Mod Podge, flower gemstones, sequin ribbon, and sparkly pink paper. We got some really fun materials that we have leftovers of, and everything was purchased at discounted prices! Yay for Hobby Lobby coupons and sales!

Basically, we cut the paper to size and used Mod Podge to stick it to the can. We wrapped a rubber band around the can, trimmed the tulle into little strips, and stuck the strips through the rubber band. We hot glued the sequins above the tulle. Then we just glued on the flowers, and popped in the pencils! It was pretty simple, quick, cheap, and obviously SUPER CUTE!

Materials:

-Pencil 12-pack (Dollar Tree, $1)

-Mod Podge (Hobby Lobby, $3.59 with 40% off coupon)

-Tulle (Hobby Lobby, $2.50 at 50% off)

-Sparkly paper (Hobby Lobby, $1)

(Already had other materials, but they are also available at Hobby Lobby for VERY affordable prices!)

We hope this sparks some fun ideas, because we sure had a lot of fun putting this girly can together (and our dad just LOVES the girly aspect of it, especially for the garage, *wink, wink*)! What are a few of your favorite girly things to add to projects? Personally, I love sequins!

Thanks for reading, and have a FABULOUS day!

ONCE UPON A TIME PARTY (PART 4: REFRESHMENTS)

Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series...

This is our fourth and final post about the "Once Upon a Time" surprise party we threw for our fifteen-year-old sister and her friends! And it's all about the food we served! Basically, we served pizza and apples for dinner (because the apples are so fitting with the whole Snow White thing), and you can see the other treats in the pictures below. We just made some treats and some "treat tags" to tie them in with the party's theme.

BLUE FAIRY WANDS!!!

Here we have some pretzels (sticks, not twists) with the tips dipped in white chocolate and topped with blue sprinkles, reminiscent of the infamous blue fairy in Once Upon a Time.

PRINCESS SNACKS!!!

And here are some rice crispy treats which were cut into different "princess-esque" shapes (like hearts and high heels, AKA glass slippers), then dipped them partially in white chocolate (some colored PINK!!!) and topped with heart-shaped sprinkles. It's a great way to tie in the princess population of Once Upon a Time.

QUEEN OF HEARTS MARSHMALLOWS!!!

This is obviously a fun way to tie in the Queen of Hearts. Just top off the marshmallows with some white chocolate and heart-shaped sprinkles. Super simple, right?!

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD COOKIES!!!

An ode to Once Upon a Time's Ruby, red cookies! Just take your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and add some (or A LOT) of red food coloring! The recipe we used is half chocolate chip/half sugar cookie, but you can use whatever recipe you like.

POISONED APPLE JUICE!!!

The evil queen spiked the apple juice--or just slapped "poisoned" on the tag and did nothing else...

POISONED APPLE POTION!!!

Mix some of that poisoned apple juice with Sprite or Fresca, and you have Poisoned Apple Potion! Yum!

And that is it for our "Once Upon a Time" party finale! Let us know if you have any fun ideas for refreshments. Thanks for reading, and have a great day--or better yet, have a sweet treat!

ONCE UPON A TIME PARTY (PART 3: DECOR AND FAVORS)

Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series...

Hey, everyone! Today we are excited to share with you our decor and party favors for our fifteen-year-old sister's surprise birthday party! We hope you like some of these ideas and give them a try if you throw your one fairytale inspired party!

SIGNS!!!

Since the theme of the party is the TV show Once Upon a Time, we decided to make some signs that point the guests to places in the show, like Storybrooke. Take a look at all the signs we made (which we simply printed off the computer in fun fonts and colors, and then used stamped with "swirly stamps" to add that little something extra special!).

BOOK BASKET

In the living room, we decided to put a basket (inspired by Little Red Riding Hood) full of fairytale books. Well, actually, we ended up throwing in a few DVD's because we didn't have enough fairytale books, but you get the idea. It made very cute decor, and it only took a few minutes to throw together!

TABLETOP CUTENESS!!!

Having our purple "mess-containing tablecloth" from the Dollar Tree helped add a splash of color! And of course, having the prize basket in the center of the table added a nice touch, too. (We talked about the prize basket in Post 1, if you are interested.)

PARTY FAVORS

Let's chat about the favors...We sent each girl home with a cute bag containing a nail polish, a bundle of Pixi Stix, Rolos, Hershey's Kisses, and gum--in addition to the prizes, of course! As you can see, each item has a cute tag to tie it into the theme of the party.

ONCE UPON A TIME PARTY (PART 2: ACTIVITIES)

Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series...

Hey, everyone! We are continuing our "Once Upon a Time" party series, and today we will cover the crafts and activities that the girls did at the party! So, if you want some fun activity ideas for a fairytale inspired party (not just for little girls--this GREAT for teens and adults), then just keep on reading! We had three main activities planned for the party: decorating plates, making sugar scrubs, and making "glass slippers." The girls seemed to enjoy all three, but my personal favorite was the plate decorating. So, let's start with the one! :)

Links to pintables at the bottom of the post!

PLATES!!!

For this plate decor, you will just need a plate (duh!) and Sharpie markers, and possibly a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for touch-ups and fix-ups; if you choose to trace on a design, you will also need a pencil and tracing paper, as well as your template. You might also want to add some rhinestones, pearls, or ribbons. I tried tracing on my design at first, and quickly learned that the tracing process can take away from the vibrancy of the Sharpie (because it sorta blends with the tracing paper residue). I ended up erasing the cursive letters and "Marilyn Monroe" (with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser) and just free-handing it to get the brightest pink and purple possible. I left the rest "traced on" because I was happy with it, but if I were to do it again, I would free-hand the whole thing to make it quicker and simpler. So hopefully you can see the difference between what's free-handed and what was traced; the free-handed stuff is a lot brighter and went on with more ease.

If you choose to trace, then it is a little more complicated, but nothing you can't handle. Take a look at Kaitlyn's plate. She just put the template on top of the tracing paper, and start tracing the letters with a pencil (press HARD so you can see the outline on the plate when you remove the papers). Then she just filled in the letters with a Sharpie marker this way takes more time because of the tracing, and the color does not go on as smooth and bright this way, for some reason, as I said before. But if you want something super precise, then this is probably the way to go.

Kaitlyn's montage/word art thing looked really neat when it was finished! So you can do something like that, or the quote more like mine...You can do anything, really. You could even draw a picture or something if you want. I think most of the girls did a fairytale quote at the party, and they looked at the templates we printed for them, but did not actually trace them. That seemed to work really well!

SUGAR SCRUBS!!!

Okay, so we got this awesome sugar scrub recipe from the blog, The Idea Room. It is a lemon scrub, and it smells delicious and exfoliates like a dream! You'll just need some olive oil, sugar, and lemon oil. Oh, and a container to keep it in. (Check out the recipe in the links below.) We found super cute Mason jars at WalMart in sets of four for $3.94 (the little one cup size). This  was by far the best deal we found.

Of course, we put the recipe on cute index cards (on stamped them up to add some cute swirly-ness!) so the girls could take home the recipe and do it again if they wanted to. The link to the printable recipe cards is below. Thanks again for the recipe, The Idea Room--check it out for more creative ideas.

GLASS SLIPPERS!!!

We made some cupcakes to be the bottom part of the "glass slipper" (like the ball of the foot--yeah, that part), broke the Pepperidge Farm Pirouette cookies in half to create a heel, and then used a carefully cut graham cracker as the middle portion. Hint: Cut the graham crackers on a really flat surface and "saw" gently with a sharp knife to make the crackers more triangle-ish (somewhere between a rectangle and triangle). Does that make sense? No? Well, then just look at the picture.

The girls had lots of fun decorating the cupcakes and adding sprinkles and frosting and all that good stuff. They turned out cute, right? Thanks to our aunt for the great idea! :)

Also, you might like to know that we made our own sprinkles! Just take some white sugar, add food coloring, and pop it in the oven at 350 degrees F for three minutes. Any longer than that will make the sugar smell and taste more like brown sugar, which could be good or bad, depending on your preference.

ONCE UPON A TIME PARTY (PART 1: GAMES AND PRIZES)

Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series...

Don't you just love Once Upon a Time? Well, so do we--it is perhaps our very favorite TV show at the moment! We love it so much, in fact, that we decided to make it the theme of our recently-turned-fifteen-year-old sister's surprise birthday party! It was lots of fun, but it definitely was not easy because most of the fairytale party ideas we found online were fit for five-year-old girls, not teenagers. After a lot of time spend on IMDB and Pinterest, brainstorming with some family members, and browsing the Dollar Tree, we finally came up with some great ideas for the party, and our sister and her guests really seemed to LOVE it! We decided to start off our new blog with a series of posts on this party, and finally get some not-so-kiddish ideas out there for non-five-year-old-girls who want a fairytale inspired party! So, let's kick off this four-post-long series by taking a look at the games we played and the prizes we gave away at our Once Upon a Time themed party! :)

Links to pintables are at the end of this post.

The first game we played was Trivia Bingo! Basically, we made a bunch of trivia cards that asked questions about the Once Upon a Time show, traditional Grimm fairytales, and the Disney versions. The answers to the questions were on the guests' bingo cards that we made, so they just put one of their magic beans (jelly beans) on the answer and whoever got a Bingo got a prize from the prize basket!

We also played Poisoned Apples to Apples. We used your basic Apples to Apples game and wrote in fairytale characters and objects (like Snow White, glass slipper, etc.) on the "Write your own" cards. Whenever someone either won a round or laid down any fairytale card, they got a prize from the prize basket.

We weren't sure how long everything at the party would take, so we had a back-up game of charades planned. We did not end up needing the back-up-game, but maybe you will want to play this one at your own Once Upon a Time party! Just write down a bunch of fairytale characters and items on little pieces of paper, throw them in a basket, and have a guest pick a paper out of the basket and act it out! The other players can guess who/want the person is pretending to be, and you can use a timer if you want. (I just thought I would describe exactly how to play charades, because I'm sure none of you have ever played this INCREDIBLY original game before...)

Now let's get to the fun part: the prizes! We gave away a total of 45 prizes, without spending much. Trust me; we got BIG BANG for our buck! Most of the prizes were from the Dollar Tree, and a lot of them came in packs, so we broke up the packs into individual prizes so we could give more. So it was an inexpensive, fun way to give the girls a lot to take home with them! Some of the prizes were a a bit dorky, I must admit, but some were awesome! We gave away candy, homemade cookies, body sprays, candles, headbands, and more! Each prize came with a "fairytale tag" attached--just a little something to connect the prize to the theme of the party. We wrapped everything up in brightly colored wrapping paper (also from the Dollar Tree). Take a look at the prizes and tags below!

Well, that wraps up our first post! We hope this gives you some fun ideas that you can incorporate into you very own Once Upon a Time themed for fairytale inspired party--or maybe just something for a fun and simple family night! If you would like to suggest any fun game or prize ideas for a fairytale party, then please leave us a comment. Thank you so much for reading, and remember we still have three more posts to come all about this party! Check in next week for our next post, which will cover the fun and easy DIY crafts/activities we did at the party! :)

SAVE YOUR NOZZLES

Prepare yourself for another post in our Quick Tip series...

Once upon a time, three intelligent, talented, and beautiful sisters were working on  a holiday decoration when the evil nozzle in the Krylon spray paint can they were using rebelled against them! They were so upset, because they had just BARELY purchased this darling spray paint specifically for their patriotic Independence Day project. They could not believe that the BRAND NEW can of paint was worthless because the nozzle wouldn't spray the pretty paint out!

The sisters were so upset that they even sent a letter to Krylon, and demanded the company to send a new spray paint or nozzle, or do SOMETHING! But, they rudely refused, and replied with only an insincere "apology" for the "inconvenience".

So, the sisters started saving nozzles from the empty spray cans in a darling Tic Tac container!! That way, if a nozzle falls out or doesn't work, they have backups! Now the sisters can save time, money, and sanity in future nozzle panics!

(P.S. We, Kaitlyn, Breann,  and CJ are the wonderful sisters; the holiday decoration was for Independence Day; yes, the nozzle really WAS evil; and this IS based on true events.)

JEWELRY STORAGE DISPLAY

Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series...

Hey, everyone! We are SO excited to show you some storage solutions for your jewelry. We have some great ideas to share that are fantastic for keeping everything organized--but, as an added bonus, they are PRETTY, so the storage doubles as decor! Does it get any better than that?! We are most excited about the jewelry boards we recently made, which are hanging happily on our bedroom walls. We got the jewelry board idea from BrightNest (link below, check it out!), and we just added to it and made it our own! It was so fun, and we love the way our boards turned out! Take a look!

So, this one is mine. Our dad made the frame, and cut the peg board down to size. It started out about 5' x 4' and then he cut it down to about 18" x 24" for each of us. I turned the peg board pink with the Krylon Mambo Pink Gloss Finish Spray Paint. After using the Krylon White Satin Finish Spray Paint on the frame, I painted on some black zebra stripes with the Delta Acrylic Paint in "Black" and a fairly small paint brush. I did not use a template or anything, I just glanced at a zebra striped blanket I have for reference.

Then, I added cute zebra print gemstones in hot pink! And of course, I added some knobs that we found at Hobby Lobby, and at Smiths, which I spray painted light pink with the Krylon Ballet Slipper Spray Paint.

In case you could not tell, I happen to LOVE zebra print! The board has kind of a fun feel, and I really enjoy it. This is perfect for storing necklaces (and Kaitlyn put bracelets on hers too!)

Kaitlyn's frame and pegboard were also made and cut by our dad. She used the Krylon Rich Plum Finish Spray Paint to pain the frame, and the Krylon Light Ivory Satin Finish Spray Paint to paint the pegboard. She used swirly stamps (which we got from Hobby Lobby a long time ago, and we use A LOT) to add that pattern along the frame, and she added some adhesive pearls. Her knobs are also from Hobby Lobby (for basically the same prices as mine). She used some Krylon Spray Paint in several "antique-ish metal" colors to paint the knobs.

Kaitlyn's turned out beautiful! It looks so classy, and I love that it has a little bit of an antique-ish, timeless feel to it. The materials used are super similar to the ones I used for mine, yet it has a totally different look, and I think that is super cool! (Of course, it's not quite as fabulous as mine, but it's close...)

GRASSHOPPER PUDDING

Prepare yourself for another post in our Mission in the Kitchen series...

Today, we will be sharing with you a little project we made in the kitchen--and ate up pretty fast because it is yummy! What are we talking about? Well, GRASSHOPPER PUDDING, of course!

We were really craving some mint ice cream...but we didn't have any...So we got creative! We made a box of vanilla pudding, added a little bit of blue food coloring (because the yellowness of the pudding + the blue = green), and then added a few drops of mint extract. What you're looking at here (isn't it a pretty picture?!) is lower-calorie, fat-free, super easy and yummy alternative to mint ice cream! Seriously, the deliciousness nearly blew us away!

Well, we decided we wanted to be blown away even further, so we added an extra chocolate kick--which I admit might take away a bit from the whole "healthier alternative" thing, depending on how much you add with this--and threw in some Oreo cookies! We just crushed them up, and tossed them in! That made the deliciousness even more delicious!

Well, thanks for reading! If you give this a try, let us know how it turns out and if you like it! :)
