GRINCH WREATH ORNAMENT

Kaitlyn has plans for a Grinch themed front porch, and she wanted to make an ornament wreath that fits with that theme. She bought most of the items at Hobby Lobby (who saw that coming!). 

I got her a wire wreath form for $1.25 at the Dollar Store. 

We wrapped a Grinch green mesh ribbon around the wreath form (we picked that up at Hobby Lobby). 

After wrapping the mesh ribbon around the wreath form, we cut the mesh ribbon and hot glued the loose end of the ribbon to the back of the wreath to secure it.

We got a tube of ornaments for $15.00 at Hobby Lobby we thought these ornaments would be perfect for a Grinch theme! Kaitlyn put hot glue on the top of the ornaments and the cap of the ornaments to provide some extra stability. We went in the order of the ornaments of the tube so we weren't overthinking where to put which ornament.

We started on the outside of the wreath and worked our way inwards.

Once the ornaments were side-by-side, we added some more hot glue between the ornaments, to make them even more stable.

Hobby Lobby had smaller ornaments, which we thought would go perfectly with the wreath. We picked up packages of smaller ornaments in two sizes (making a total of three sizes of ornaments on the wreath). Using these small ornaments, we filled in the spots where we could still see the mesh ribbon through the empty spots of the ornaments. We did have an empty ornament spot which you can see in the picture above (because we ran out of ornaments), but don't worry, we covered it up!

We added a thick, green jute to the back of the wreath to hang the wreath, using a simple double knot and cutting off the excess jute.

Then Kaitlyn added a pretty glitter bow on the top of the ornament wreath to finish it off, which served the double purpose of covering the ornament bald spot! The bow is specifically for outdoor use - perfect for the front porch!

Kaitlyn and I enjoyed making this Grinch ornament wreath, and love how it turned out! We both love the Grinch and we adore this gorgeous wreath!

ORNAMENT WALL DECOR

Kaitlyn made this beautiful wall hanging ornament and I wanted to share how we (but mostly she) made it! 

She picked up the wood wall hanging ornament at Wood Connection a few years ago (she has a bad habit of buying crafts and then not circling back to them until years later). I don't know that Wood Connection sells these anymore, but I've seen similar-sized ornaments at Hobby Lobby for $6.99 (currently on sale for $2.10).

First Kaitlyn painted a band across the ornament with Folk Art metallic Gunmetal paint, and painted the edges of the ornament, continuing the band.

Using a square guilting ruler, she marked a line across the top of the ornament for the cap.

The top, bottom and sides of the ornament were painted with Delta Ceramcoat Black paint.

We picked up some textured, metallic gold fabric on clearance at Hobby Lobby. Kaitlyn cut out a few strips to line the top and bottom of the band width, as well as to layer the cap with. We used fabric glue to attach the fabric strips to the ornament and trimmed off the excess with an exacto knife.

Kaitlyn bought a set of a variety of small wood snowflakes at Hobby Lobby; they are regularly priced $3.99 and currently on sale for $1.20. We painted the snowflakes with Delta Ceramcoat Tompte Red paint.

While the paint on the snowflakes was drying Kaitlyn added a D-ring to the back of the ornament. She uses D-ring pretty frequently, so she ordered a large pack of them on Amazon a few years ago, but you can pick some up at any hardware store too.

After the paint dried, we sprayed Gorilla Glue Spray Adhesive on the snowflakes and glittered the snowflakes with a maroon color called Crimson from Hobby Lobby (regularly priced at $3.49, but it was on sale when we picked it up). Once that had dried, we Mod Podge Spray to keep the glitter in place.

Once the Mod Podge dried, it was time to add the small snowflakes. Kaitlyn laid them out first and glued them on the band of the ornament using Gorilla Wood Glue.

Kaitlyn wrapped some 18 gauge gold wire around the cap to add more texture (regularly priced $2.99, but currently on sale for $0.99 at Hobby Lobby). She then used the same wire to make a loop to hang the hook by - the wire wasn't strong enough to hold the hoop shape once it was hanging on a nail on the wall though (which is why the loop is a different shape on the desk vs hanging on the wall).

Is it just me or am I mentioning Hobby Lobby quite a bit in this post?)

Lastly, Kaitlyn added these pretty ice crystal picks to the top of the ornament to give it more character. This is two picks cut apart with wire cutters, We picked these up at, you guessed it, Hobby Lobby! These were attached using hot glue.

We both think this lovely hanging wall decor ornament turned out perfect! I love that there's different sheens of paint, glitter, metallic fabric, wire and ice crystal picks to add lots of texture. Best of all, the colors on this ornament coordinates perfectly with her Harry Potter themed stockings and Christmas tree around the corner!
