DIY GRINCH ORNAMENT WREATH | CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT WREATH

Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series...

Kaitlyn has plans for a Grinch-themed front porch, so she wanted to make an ornament wreath to match. She picked up most of the supplies at Hobby Lobby (shocking, I know).

I grabbed her a wire wreath form for $1.25 at the Dollar Store.

We wrapped Grinch-green mesh ribbon around the wreath form to create the base of the wreath (also from Hobby Lobby).

Once the wreath form was fully wrapped, we cut the ribbon and hot glued the loose end to the back to secure it.

We found a tube of ornaments at Hobby Lobby for $15.00 and knew they were perfect for this Grinch theme. Kaitlyn added hot glue to both the ornament caps and the tops of the ornaments for extra stability. We followed the order of ornaments in the tube so we didn't overthink placement.

We started on the outer edge of the wreath and worked our way inward.

After placing ornaments side-by-side, we added extra hot glue between them to make everything more secure.

Hobby Lobby also had smaller ornaments, which worked perfectly for filling gaps. We grabbed two different sizes, giving us three ornament sizes total on the wreath. We used the smaller ones to fill spots where the mesh was still peeking through.

We did end up with one empty ornament spot (you can see it in the picture above because we ran out)...but don't worry — we covered it up!

We hang the wreath, we added thick green jute to the back using a simple double knot and trimmed the excess.

Kaitlyn finished it off by adding a glitter bow to the top — which also conveniently hid the ornament bald spot. The bow is made for outdoor use, making it perfect for her front porch.

Kaitlyn and I had so much fun making this Grinch ornament wreath and love how it turned out. We both love the Grinch, and it fits her porch theme perfectly!

ORNAMENT WALL DECOR | TEXTURED CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT CRAFT | WOOD WALL HANGING ORNAMENT

Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series...

Kaitlyn made this beautiful wall hanging ornament and I wanted to share how we (but mostly she) made it!

She originally picked up this wood wall hanging ornament at Wood Connection a few years ago — because she has a slight habit of buying crafts...and then not circling back to them until years later. I can't say much though, because I sometimes do the same thing.

I'm not sure if Wood Connection still carries these specific ornaments, but I have seen similar sized ones at Hobby Lobby for $6.99 (and at the time of writing this, they were on sale for $2.10 — which is a steal).

First, Kaitlyn painted a band across the ornament using Folk Art Metallic Gunmetal paint. She also painted the edges of the ornament, continuing the same metallic band all the way around.

Using a square guilting ruler, she marked a clean line across the top of the ornament to map out where the cap would be.

The top, bottom, and sides of the ornament were then painted with Delta Ceramcoat Black paint to create contrast against the metallic center band.

We picked up some textured metallic gold fabric on clearance at Hobby Lobby (shocking, I know). Kaitlyn cut strips to line both the top and bottom edges of the metallic band, and also layered pieces onto the ornament cap for added dimension.

We attached the fabric using fabric glue and trimmed the excess with an X-Acto knife for clean edges.

Kaitlyn also picked up a pack of small wooden snowflakes from Hobby Lobby — regularly $3.99, but on sale for $1.20. We painted the snowflakes using Delta Ceramcoat Tompte Red paint.

While the snowflakes were drying, Kaitlyn added a D-ring hanger to the back of the ornament. She actually ordered a big pack of D-rings off Amazon a few years ago since she uses them so often, but you can easily find them at most hardware stores too.

Once the snowflakes were dry, we sprayed them with Gorilla Glue Spray Adhesive and coated them in a maroon glitter called Crimson (also from Hobby Lobby — regularly $3.49, but on sale when we grabbed it).

After the glitter set, we sealed everything with Mod Podge Spray to keep the sparkle locked in place.

When the Mod Podge dried, it was time to attach the snowflakes. Kaitlyn laid them out first to decide on placement, then glue them onto the metallic band using Gorilla Wood Glue.

Next, Kaitlyn 18-gauge gold wire around the ornament cap to add even more texture (regularly $2.99, but on sale for $0.99 at Hobby Lobby).

She used the same wire to create a hanging loop — although we did discover the wire wasn't quite strong enough to hold its perfect hoop shape once hanging on a wall nail...which explains why the loop looks different sitting on the desk versus hanging up.

Is it just me, or have I mentioning Hobby Lobby an excessive number of times in this post?

Lastly, Kaitlyn added some gorgeous ice crystal picks to the top of the ornament for extra character. These were actually two separate picks that she cut apart using wire cutters.

Yes...we found those at Hobby Lobby too.

They were secured in place suing hot glue.

When everything was finished, we both agreed this wall hanging ornament turned out absolutely beautiful. I loved the mix of textures — the metallic paint, flittered snowflakes, fabric, wire, and icy crystals all layered together.

Best of all, the ornament coordinates perfectly with her Harry Potter themed stockings and Christmas tree right around the corner, which makes it even more magical.

Let me know how you'd decorate your ornament — I always love seeing different creative spins on the same idea!

Happy Holidays!
