HOCUS POCUS PORCH SIGN | REVERSIBLE HALLOWEEN PORCH DECOR DIY

Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series...

Kaitlyn wanted a reversible porch sign — one side Halloween and the other side for Christmas (which will be posted later). The first side we made was the Halloween side...witch (see what I did there) has a Hocus Pocus theme!

We got the wood for the sign at the ReStore located in Spanish Fork, Utah.

The design for the sign was created in Cricut Design Space, using SVGs we purchased on Etsy. Since we were working on several Hocus Pocus projects, we bought a bundle of SVGs so we'd have lots of options to work with. Normally I'd link the exact shop, but unfortunately it has since closed — which is honestly tragic because the designs were adorable. Etsy still has plenty of other Sanderson-worthy options if you go hunting.

We created our stencil out of mylar. We ordered a pack of 12x24 inch mylar sheets on Amazon.

Once we had our silhouettes and quotes cut out, we laid everything on the board first to figure out placement and spacing before committing.

After we figured out the layout, we removed every other stencil since some overlapped. We focused on painting those first, making sure they were even and taping them down with painter's tape.

We used Delta Ceracoat paint (colors we already had on hand — some sadly discontinued). We chose:

Amethyst for Mary

Butter Yellow for Sarah

Tangerine for Winifred

We started with sisters' hair silhouettes at the top of the board. We used foam sponge dabbers to stencil the paint on.

TIP: It's way easier to bad around the edges first and then fill in the center.

Then we worked our way down the board, filling in each stencil section.

After the paint dried, we removed the stencils, placed the remaining ones, taped them down, and painted again. There were a couple tiny spots that needed touch-ups once everything was finished drying.

After adding a clear topcoat to seal everything, the sign was ready to go out on the porch for the world to admire.

I love how this sign turned out — it pairs perfectly with the Hocus Pocus Doormat and makes the whole porch feel extra witchy.

Let me know what silhouettes or quotes you'd put on your sign — I'm already thinking about what I want to do on the Christmas side!
