Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series...
I saw the cutest little fall animal figurines at Dollar Tree — squirrels, raccoons, foxes, and hedgehogs (though I was only interested in three of them...priorities). At just $1.25 each, I couldn't walk away. My inner bargain-loving craft gremlin demanded...well...crafting.
Once they came home with me, I decided they needed a major glow-up. Currently sitting on your shelf as "basic woodland creatures"? Nah. I wanted forest glam. So out came the gold spray paint.
I used Rust-Oleum gold spray paint with primer (I found mine at Walmart for $5.98), and it worked perfectly for this project. The metallic finish instantly turned these adorable little pals into something that looks straight out of a boutique — but without the boutique price tag.
Tip time: Painting from just one angle isn't enough. If you spray them standing up and call it a day, you'll miss spots — like under the arms, chins, or tiny crevices — and we don't want patchy gold friends. Here's how I made sure they got fully glammed:
1. Spray them standing up and let the coat dry.
2. Lay them down and spray from the other angles.
3. A couple touch-ups later and bam — forest couture achieved.
That's literally all there is to it! So simple, so affordable, and so fun — plus it gives your fall decor a little bit of extra sparkle without trying too hard.
I absolutely love how they turned out. These gold animals fit right into my fall setup, and they look way more expensive than they actually are.
If you give this project a try, please tell me how it turns out and what color you chose to refinish your Dollar Tree animals! I love seeing all the creative twists you come up with.
